Vehement Bubble Krane

After discovering that part of my privileges of being a student worker in the sculpture studio are copping any and all great pieces of wood left behind by ungrateful freshmen who have no idea what they are throwing away, I have become quite the hoarder and texture snob when it comes to painting anymore. The freshman foundation sculpture class uses such nice smooth pine, as Joe put, "it can be as smooth as a baby's ass when sanded with some 220". One mans trash, another girl's canvas.

So basically, as Nancy Chunn (my wenesday painting teacher) put it, "Oh what a fantastic world you live in!", Upon looking at these two paintings. She declared she wanted to come live there as well and I stared at here blankly because I could only imagine what volumes of crazy she must have been thinking I was.

New Painting Sold

I Just finished My most up to date painting, though I'm CONSTANTLY pumping out doodles, small watercolors and pastel works like My mind pumps out thoughts. They basically come out holding hands. Ha. But this was probably my favorite painting I've done, up to date and I sold it yesterday for 90$, which is fantastic because I am constantly frivolously spending money lately. However this painting was based off of a smaller drawing done in pen and ink and I was really happy with how the large scale turned out.

I find that in limiting my color pallet I have been more successful, Because otherwise I go kind of crazy. And use way too many colors. So if I stick to monochromatic, or if I say I'm just going to use primary colors or even just black and white line work it's a lot more successful.

Here's the Mail

So I sent people who gave me their address a letter.
I also sent it to some people who I don't know.
Either way, your letter should have led you here.

You are all a part of something I got an idea for upon waking up in the middle of the night after a really weird dream. That actually had nothing to do with this project.

However, I came to the realization that three things that I love more than anything, are Doodling, Getting Mail, and The music I listen to while I doodle.
Basically I wanted to give my drawings a home, also give others the enjoyment of getting mail that ISN'T asking for money, AND some new song lyrics. Each drawing has a line or two from the song I was listening to while I created it.
(If there aren't lyrics on the back of yours it means I was probably listening to an instrumental band, aka explosions in the sky or the band that resides in my apartment.)
I hope everyone enjoys their mail, if you could pass on the website to as many people as you know that would be fantastic :)
If you hate it, never want to look at the drawing or website ever again in your whole life, just recycle and give it to a friend.

Pictures of certain letters will be up soon, maybe yours will be on here..
if you didn't get a letter, but came across this first, let me know.

It's like an art scavenger hunt but you don't really have to do anything except put in a web address. And I'm sure you were already on your computer anyway. -.^

Watercolor people

I brought my watercolors back to NYC.

I forgot how fun it is to make little stains and go searching for images like a little kid with an eye spy book. I think that's why I love doodling so much, I can continue being a child all the time. I think it's going to thunderstorm :]

I'm working on a new painting. It's gone through two phases thus far. I just know that I want it to have the general feeling of a floating world that is unraveling off of a spool of string. But it has definitely evolved off of a drawing I did on a piece of notebook paper. That's where the yellow background came from.

The bigger of the two images is where the painting is at currently. I want to give it a psychedelic, airy feel I suppose. I've been listening to a lot of Pretty Lights, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Heartless Bastards, Mouse on Mars, music like that. Stuff I can zone out to but still be a member of this universe.
I hope it goes the way I plan. But I guess that's not the idea.

"nothing isn't nothing, nothing's something that's important to me. that's right. and everyone's a little nothing, that's ok, that's how it should
be... That's right, that's right."

Little Ones

I've been working on some small illustrations on Indian Paper. Just silly sketches and maybe ideas for larger works. Not sure where it's going yet. I feel as though a lot of my doodles are inspired by the type of music I'm listening to at the time. I think a lot of my inspiration lately has been coming from fleet foxes and the rebirth of my love of the Shins. Really great music and amazing lyrics to draw to.
I've been really digging this idea of an elephant tea kettle lately. I never realized the two look like each other, an elephant and a tea kettle that is.

"I've done myself an impossible crime,
Had to paint myself a hole,
And fall inside,
If it's far enough in sight and rhyme,
I get to wear another dress,
And count in time"

FIrst Post, Some pictures of work

Here are some of my most recent paintings, you have to forgive me I've never had a blog before. I'm kind of excited about this ^.^ I call this painting "mama sky" and it's a bunch of my doodles glued on board panel and acrylic paint. I'm working on a whole series of small watercolor illustrations on Indian paper that I'll upload soon. If anyone is interested in buying this, that would be awesome!

You ain't machines and you ain't land
And the plants and the animals, they are linked
And the plants and the animals eat each other"
